School district makes plans to deal with COVID-19
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – A team of school district officials developed a fall reopening plan, Assistant Superintendent Jaret Tomlinson said when presenting that plan to the school board last week.
“We really wanted to figure out how things work, how things don’t work,” he said
A test run working with Rockin Tiger Club students revealed a major drawback to strict social distancing, Tomlinson said.
“Probably the biggest obstacle to get over was that parents want to be in the building with kids,” he said.
Limiting the number of people allowed in the buildings is the safest option, Tomlinson said.
The ends of the spectrum are to do nothing or to quarantine everyone, with neither being acceptable, he said.
“We want to try to find that middle ground that is going to be as realistic as possible,” Tomlinson said. “That’s going to be a delicate balance.”
Reopening plans may change by the time school starts in a few weeks, he said.
