Sisters praise police for ‘extraordinary’ care provided to mother

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – During a time when police officers face negative news nationally, the Excelsior Springs Police Department is receiving praise for its “above and beyond” love and care to one Excelsior Springs family. Sisters Gail Vassmer and Julane Hicks recalled the support police and emergency personnel paid to their mother, Madolyn Eberts, prior to her death. “As Mom got older, she had a lot of falls and accidents, and was frequently visited by the police and paramedics. That’s when we first noticed their extraordinary level of care,” Vassmer said. “Officer Kenneth Stieh went even further by visiting Mom. His visits always made her day. She thought he was the best,” Hicks said. “When he prayed over Mom, it meant a lot to her.” Eberts died late last year at age 86.
