Voters to weigh constitutional amendments

Missouri voters will be asked to decide four statewide constitutional amendments during the Aug. 4 election, with measures addressing issues ranging from state parks and conservation funding to county assessors, the initiative petition process and state tax policy.

The amendments, which will appear on ballots statewide, would continue or change provisions in the Missouri Constitution if approved by voters. As Election Day approaches, voters will be asked to determine whether each proposal should be adopted, making it important to understand what each amendment would do and how a “yes” or “no” vote would affect existing law.

Amendment 1 asks Missouri voters whether to continue an existing one-tenth of 1% sales and use tax that supports state parks, historic sites and soil and water conservation programs. The tax currently generates approximately $140 million annually and would remain in place for another 10 years if approved by voters.
