ESSD offers COVID procedures, ‘safe return’ plan

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – With the COVID-19 Delta variant making more children sick than the original virus, the school board voted Monday to require masks in school. This follows the district’s earlier measures in anticipation of schools opening.

Mill hosts info session

LAWSON – Representatives from Missouri State Parks held an informational meeting Wednesday at Watkins Woolen Mill State Park and State Historic Site, 26600 Park Road North, Lawson. The park service invited the public to share comments and ask questions about the park and operations there.
BUILT IN 1860, a year before the start of the Civil War, steam-powered Watkins Mill still contains early textile milling equipment. The park offers several additional buildings, including an eightsided schoolhouse and a church.

Wreck takes 6-year-old’s life; four others injured seriously

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – A wreck that left a 6-year-old child dead also left a 4-year-old child, two teenagers and a 24-year-old man with serious injuries.

The wreck occurred about 7:35 p.m. Aug. 20 at 805 E. Seybold Road, Excelsior Springs, based on reports and comments from the Excelsior Springs Police Department and the Missouri Highway Patrol.
