George West, 68, of Excelsior Springs, Missouri passed away at North Kansas City Hospital, unexpectedly, from complications of prostate cancer. 

Mr. West was born on Dec. 11, 1952, in El Dorado Springs, Arkansas. George received his high school diploma through the army and continued classes at Penn Valley Community College.  He was a proud Vietnam Veteran.  He was a member of the local American Legion.  He was very active in his children's lives through coaching, Boy Scouts, church, and community work.  He retired from Colgate Palmolive where he worked most of his life.  He was very involved with his grandchildren and enjoyed history, religion, good food, and helping others.  

He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald West, mother, Ruth (Craig) West, sisters, Gerilynn West, Donna West, and brothers Phillip West, Charles West. 

Survivors include son, Jonathan West, daughters Jennifer Derrickson, Jessica Long, grandsons Jonathan Derrickson, Jacob Derrickson, James Long, Jordyn Long and granddaughter Jolene Florez.  

Visitation will be held at Bross & Spidle Chapel in Excelsior Springs, Missouri on Friday, June 11 at 10 a.m. with funeral to follow at 11 a.m.  Graveside services will be at the Newcomer Cemetery in Mendon, Missouri at 2 p.m.
