Boys edge Harrisonville, end dry spell
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers lifted a weight off their backs Feb. 10.
They edged visiting Harrisonville 57-55. The Missouri River Valley Conference West Division win was their first home victory in varsity boys basketball in four years. Before then, the Tigers had last won in their home gym on Feb. 2, 2018, when they defeated Odessa 78-76.
It also was Excelsior Springs’ first MRVC West win in four years. The Tigers’ last divisional win had been on Feb. 9, 2018. Coincidentally, it was against Harrisonville. The Tigers topped the Wildcats 65-63 in overtime at Harrisonville.
Harrisonville hit the first bucket of the streak-ending tilt, but junior Rakai Gantt put the Tigers ahead with a threepoint basket from the corner just over a minute into the ballgame. The Wildcats then staged a 15-3 run and led 17-6 after one quarter.
