Boys hoopsters get more offseason reps at Lawson, UCM
New Excelsior Springs varsity boys basketball coach Doug Burnett and his Tigers got out of town for a few days this week.
The Tigers were slated to conclude a two-day shootout Thursday at Warrensburg, hosted by the University of Central Missouri (UCM). Excelsior Springs was scheduled to play six games total, Burnett said Monday.
Burnett hoped to see the Tigers continue developing their toughness and defensive skills at UCM.
“Defense and toughness, you take care of those two things and you’ve got a chance to win,” he said.
Winning, however, doesn’t necessarily mean outscoring an opponent, Burnett cautioned.
“We don’t ever want to be resultsbased,” he said. “We want to focus on our process. It’s always about the process and just being able to look at the man in the mirror and being happy with what you accomplished.”
