On Dec. 9, Excelsior Springs got back to .500 in varsity girls basketball. The Tigers also added to their trophy collection. That night at Higginsville, Excelsior Springs edged Odessa 48-42 for third place in the Husker Classic. The victory put the girls at 3-3. Excelsior Springs overcame an early deficit to down the Bulldogs. Trailing 10-8 after one quarter, the Tigers edged Odessa 16-11 the second quarter to lead 24-21 at halftime. The Tigers outscored the Bulldogs 1412 to lead 38-33 after three quarters. They secured their third-place hardware with a 10-9 fourth quarter. Bella Loeffert led Excelsior Springs with 14 points and was one of two Tigers in double figures. Baylee O’Dell added 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
