For the Excelsior Springs varsity girls soccer squad, the final score of a game is less important than the team’s performance during it, according to coach Brett McKenzie.The girls performed well the morning of April 11, when they pasted Cameron 8-0 at Tiger Stadium to open the Excelsior Springs Tournament, McKenzie opined.“I thought we did a great job of controlling the ball, controlling the tempo, being the team that brought great energy and won that physical battle,” he said.In addition, the Tigers created many scoring chances inside Cameron’s 18-yard box – something they “have struggled to do” this season, McKenzie said.“I think that’s going to give us a lot of confidence to be able to continue getting in those dangerous spots and scoring more goals,” he said.Sophomore forward Reese Ryan noticed improvement in Excelsior Springs’ ability to create scoring chances inside the 18-yard box, too...
