EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers got off to an 0-2 start in varsity softball. The season opened Monday with a 4-3 road loss to Cameron. It was a pitcher’s duel the first three innings, as senior Mayce Barber and Cameron’s Madison Jessen each threw shutout ball. Excelsior Springs scored two runs in the fourth. Junior Mallory Millsap reached base on an error, sophomore Karli Shipman singled, and junior Jordyn Pekarek singled in Millsap and Shipman with two outs to acount for the runs. But the lead was short-lived, as the Dragons tied it with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Two errors, a hit batter and a single helped even it. The Tigers went up 3-2 in the fifth, when freshman Bailey Carder reached base on a one-out single and later scored on junior Avory Moore’s ground out. Cameron claimed the lead in the sixth by taking advantage of errors, a passed ball and two singles. Excelsior Springs threatened to reclaim the momentum by loading the bases in the top of the seventh, but…
