ES volleyball season ends in district semis

KEARNEY – Another Excelsior Springs volleyball season is over. The Tigers’ season ended last week after a first-round win and a semifinal loss in Class 4 District 16 Tournament action in Kearney. They opened Oct. 26 against St. Joseph Lafayette, coming away from the best-of-five match with a 3-0 victory, defeating the Irish 25-19, 25-16 and 25-15. Junior Kyli Crowley led Excelsior Springs’ attack with 10 kills, with fellow juniors Rylie Stottlemyre finishing with seven and Morgan Krier adding six. Senior Natalie Frese set up her teammates with 23 assists. Frese and Crowley led the Tigers defensively with 10 and nine digs, respectively. With the win, the Tigers advanced to the district semifinals Oct. 27, where they fell to top-seeded Platte County 3-0. The Pirates took control early and claimed the sets 25-14, 25-4, 25-17.
