EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Kathryn Beile has her first set and match wins as the Excelsior Springs varsity volleyball coach. The Tigers gave Beile those milestones Sept. 3 by sweeping visiting St. Joseph Lafayette in a best-of-five non-conference match 3-0. “I just feel so blessed to be a part of this community and be with these girls,” Beile said. “They make me better, and I’m really excited for our experiences and our lessons we are going to teach each other.” The first set was a seesaw fight, with both teams taking advantage of their passing and hitting until the Tigers took a four-point lead, 12-8, following back-to-back kills by sophomore Rowyn Pekarek and junior Kylie Crowley. Thanks in part to two service aces by Crowley, they went on to lead 21-14 before Lafayette called timeout to try to change up the momentum. The strategy worked. Temporarily.
