Excelsior Springs girls tennis: A look back

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers met two of their goals this varsity girls tennis season. They expected to grow throughout the season. They also expected to find more success from the previous season. Coach Richie Marsh’s group of netters did just that. Coming off a season where they had won three duals, the Tigers recorded five wins in 2020. The Tigers, who had four players returning with varsity experience, took three wins from Center, and a win apiece from Cameron and Carrollton. “The girls have come a long way from the beginning of the year,” Marsh said. “Although we may not have won a lot of matches, we were much more competitive as a team against our opponents than we were a year ago.” Marsh’s crew also picked up more individual wins than the 2019 season, 32, compared to 14 for the previous season. The Tigers gave out individual awards for the season. Lizzy Casey was named Most Valuable Player. Sophomore Nicole Kilgore was named Most Improved Player. Junior Amanda Mayfield…
