Father, son coach again at state
Father Aaron Holst and son Simon Holst coached again at state baseball competition this week in Ozark, albeit under different conditions than their last appearance there in 2023.Aaron Holst, who retired in 2025 from the Excelsior Springs School District as a coach and teacher, was there as head coach of Northland Christian. The Kansas Citybased private school defeated Dadeville 12-1 Monday in the Class 1 state semifinals, then blanked St. Elizabeth 10-0 Tuesday in the championship game.Simon Holst was there as an assistant coach with Excelsior Springs. The team departed Tuesday for Ozark.The Tigers were slated to play Springfield Catholic Wednesday in the Class 4 state semis. Pending the outcome, they were to play for the championship Thursday afternoon or for third place Thursday morning.This week also marked the farewells for eight recent Excelsior Springs graduates: Kaelan Bedford, Cooper Collins, Henry Crowley...
