NEW YORK – After lengthy negotiations between players and owners, Major League Baseball is set to get underway in late July. Kansas City Royals Chairman and CEO John Sherman and St. Louis Cardinals infielder Matt Carpenter are among those who are ecstatic. “We look forward to returning to Kauffman Stadium to compete on behalf of our community and the great fans of the Kansas City Royals,” Sherman stated Wednesday in a news release. “I can’t wait for Opening Day, as we welcome back the healing and unifying power of sports. Let’s play baseball.” Carpenter summed up his feelings about returning to baseball with a short tweet, which also appeared in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “Baseball is back!” Carpenter exclaimed. “I could cry…#2020.” Multiple media outlets have reported that Major League Baseball plans to play a 60-game regular season. Reporting Wednesday for CBS Sports, Matt Snyder stated the regular season would end Sept. 27.
