Ice Crushers smash competition; nab NKCA tourney title
A group of area 13-year-olds dominated their NKCA Baseball League competition this spring and summer.Called the Ice Crushers and coached by Richie Marsh, Andy Cramer, Greg Schmidt and JP Nielsen, the youngsters recently won the league title for their age level, cruising to 9-2 and 15-3 wins in tournament play. The victories followed a 14-0 regular season, during which they won the North Division title, averaging 12.3 runs per game and allowing only 3.5.The championships in NKCA play capped a 21-7-1 season. That season began in April with the Ice Crushers playing in multiple tournaments, including one in Columbia.Other tournaments included the KC Sports Crown Town Challenge, held in May, where the Ice Crushers went 2-1 and finished fourth; and the KC Sports Just Bats June Jam, where they went 1-21 and placed ninth.
