Male grapplers split triangular with Clinton, Harrisonville

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Before hosting their annual Tiger Classic (see related story), the Excelsior Springs boys wrestling team hosted another event. On Jan. 5, the Tigers faced Clinton and Harrisonville in a Missouri River Valley Conference West Division triangular. They opened with a 42-18 dual win over Clinton. The Cardinals picked up team points with the Tigers having open weights at 106, 132 and 138. The Tigers won by forfeit at 113 and 170. No points were allotted at 120, 145, 220 and 285 because both teams were open in those weight classes. Freshman Micah Danner helped Excelsior Springs win the dual by pinning Blake Moody at 126. Junior Ayden Dolt also won by fall at 152 against Matt Balke, as did senior Damon Ashworth in his match with Jace King at 160. In addition, sophomore J.B. Prestia won with a second-period fall against Isaac McClure at 182. Junior Trystan Gilbert won his match with Tristen Carter at 195 with a third-period pin. The Tigers closed by falling 57-21 to…
