I’m not as apathetic as I thought.

The “Tartan Army” has convinced me of that.

A few weeks ago, as you’ll recall, I wrote of my growing disinterest in some pro sports teams and major sports tournaments. One of the targets of my apathy was the latest men’s World Cup, now underway in various metro areas in the United States, Canada and Mexico, including Kansas City.

But then, something happened: I started hearing about the love international soccer fans are showing for the United States while taking in the World Cup. Specifically, I started hearing about the embracing of American culture by fans of Scotland’s national team, nicknamed the Tartan Army.

According to the YouTube videos I’ve streamed, thousands of Scottish fans flooded into the Boston metro area to watch their homeland play two group-stage games – the first against Haiti, the second against Morocco. They paraded through the streets, bagpipes blaring, as they prepared to watch their lads play in soccer’s biggest tournament. Appare…
