Tigers clinch fourth straight district boys soccer crown
Excelsior Springs varsity boys soccer coach Zac Ganzer and his Tigers are continuing their quest for a fourth topfour finish at Class 2 state competition.Excelsior Springs (18-3) will face St. Michael the Archangel (18-4) at 1 p.m. Saturday at Tiger Stadium in the Class 2 quarterfinals, with the winner advancing to the semifinals, slated for Nov. 22 at the World Wide Technology Soccer Park in Fenton. The Tigers are averaging 5.3 goals per game and the Guardians are averaging 2.8 goals per game.The Tigers secured the meeting with St. Michael the Archangel by recently winning the Class 2 District 8 Tournament – their fourth straight district title. They won the District 6 title in 2021 and have won three straight District 8 championships.Excelsior Springs secured its last district crown with two wins – an 8-0 thumping of St. Joseph Benton Nov. 5 and a 9-1 shellacking of Maryville Nov. 7.
