Tigers fall to St. Pius X in district soccer, lose last 11

OAK GROVE – Excelsior Springs’ losing streak in varsity boys soccer continued in district play. But the Tigers’ season did not. The Tigers finished 2020 with a 3-1 loss to St. Pius X-Kansas City in the Class 2 District 7 Tournament Nov. 2 at Panther Stadium. The Tigers put themselves in position multiple times to win the opening-round meeting, creating 10 shots, putting three of those shots on goal. Junior Ethan Edwards received an assist from sophomore Zach Dimes in the 15th minute to tie the score at 1 for the only Excelsior Springs shot that found the back of the net. The Warriors took the lead in the 41st minute and added another goal in the 45th to advance to the second round. It was Excelsior Springs’ 11th straight loss. Those losses included their last three regular-season contests, when they struggled to consistently put the ball in the net.
