ST. JOSEPH – When Missouri Western State University takes to the football field this fall, chances are, an Excelsior Springs High School alumnus will be among those leading the charge. At press time, the Griffons had not posted a 2020 roster. However, former Tiger Sam Webb is among those who saw significant playing time in 2019. Webb played in every game last season for the Griffons. The team finished 9-3, capping their season with a 35-14 thumping of Henderson State University in the Agent Barry Live United Bowl in Texarkana, Arkansas. His contributions included 29 tackles (24 solo, five assisted), 12 pass defenses, three interceptions, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. For his work, Webb received firstteam, all-conference honors and was a Dan Hansen All-Super Region Three pick. He also was a D2CCA secondteam, all-region selection.
