The Bearcats’ varsity 8-man football season isn’t necessarily getting easier, even though they’re facing a familiar opponent to start postseason play, Orrick coach Matt O’Dell suggested. Orrick is slated to face Northland Christian in its District 4 opener Friday at Simmons Field.

For Excelsior Springs varsity volleyball coach Cindy Price, the Tigers’ 3-1 loss to Odessa Oct. 23 in the Class 3 District 15 Tournament marked the last time she got to coach this season’s corps of seniors.

At press time, Excelsior Springs was hoping to get another crack at Kearney in varsity 11-man football. The Tigers were slated to play Van Horn Thursday night in Independence to open the Class 4 District 8 Tournament, with the victor to advance to play Kearney Nov.

CLOSE FINISH Excelsior Springs senior Gabby Scrivener can say she finished her high school girls golf career as one of the top 30 golfers in the state in Class 3. She was nearly one of the top 20 girls golfers.

Gaige Carr is ready for Friday night. Carr and his Excelsior Springs teammates will complete the Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division and regular-season portion of their varsity 11-man football schedule Friday on the road against archrival Kearney.

A GIFT Graceland University is getting a gift, according to Excelsior Springs varsity volleyball coach Cindy Price. That gift is senior Lillah Shue, who has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball for Graceland, an NAIA-affiliated school headquartered in Lamoni, Iowa.
