Body Terri Irons saw her induction into the Excelsior Springs High School Athletic Hall of Fame on Aug. 10 in the Performing Arts Center as more than a personal honor.

Body An Aug. 20 preseason jamboree with visiting Kearney and Chillicothe gave the Tigers a phase of their game to hone as they prepare to open their varsity boys soccer season next week.

Body On Aug. 19, Excelsior Springs varsity football coach Mark Faubion and his staff glimpsed how their Tigers might match up against other teams.

Body The Tigers aren’t concerned about facing new competition this varsity girls golf season, according to coach David Stalder. Like Excelsior Springs’ other sports programs, the girls golf team will be affiliated with the Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division.

Body Excelsior Springs has some big shoes to fill in varsity boys soccer. Two of those shoes were filled by Ethan Edwards.

Body Many varsity new runners are taking to the cross country trails this season for Excelsior Springs. On the girls side, the Tigers graduated everyone from last season’s team.

Body If Excelsior Springs’ upcoming varsity football season could be summed up in one word, it would probably be familiarity. The Tigers have a familiar face leading them: Mark Faubion, who enters his sixth season as their head coach.

Body The Tigers have a quest in varsity softball, according to coach Megan Gilbertson: They want a district title this season.

Body A group of returning netters has Excelsior Springs tennis coach Richie Marsh excited about this fall. “Our fans can expect to see our girls competing from start to the end,” said Marsh, who’s in his 12th season leading the program.

Body Excelsior Springs is youth-heavy this season in high school volleyball. Of the 25 players in the program, only three are seniors.
