Body Excelsior Springs varsity baseball coach Aaron Holst and his Tigers are hoping to breathe easier this week. The Tigers had nine wins entering the week, which began Monday with a 12-5 road loss to Kearney and continued Wednesday with a 3-0 home loss to Winnetonka.

Body Excelsior Springs produced not one, not two, but three champions at last week’s Lafayette County Tournament. The April 17 competition at the Higginsville Golf & Country Club offered three formats – individual, best ball and scramble.

Casler, Rogers, Willis get wins at home meet

Body Sophomores Josie Casler and Kinley Rogers came through with winning throws when Excelsior Springs hosted the Mineral Water Classic. Casler was the girls javelin champion at the April 19 track and field competition, throwing 35.55 meters.

Body Last week, Excelsior Springs boys tennis coach Richie Marsh and his Tigers got their first dual win this season. Their second win, however, eluded them. As The Standard reported April 19, the Tigers cruised past Richmond 9-0 April 15 at Maurice Roberts Park.
