Following the approval of a sewer rate decrease, the city council approved replacement parts for the wastewater treatment and water plants, of more than $58,000 and $29,000, respectively. At the first city council meeting of December, Public Works Director Chad Birdsong asked for the approval of an auger and compactor for the plant.

Sewer rates to decrease in the new year

Excelsior Springs residents will see a decrease in their future sewer bills after a proposed rate decrease was approved by the city council during their first December meeting at the Hall of Waters. “Through our annual budgeting process, we review the water and sewer fees to make sure we have adequate funds to maintain the distribution and collection system and maintain healthy reserves in each,” said Public Works Director Chad Birdsong.

Children spend morning shopping with law enforcement

Several local children were able to shop for Christmas gifts with an Excelsior Springs law enforcement officer through the Shop with a Cop program. “Shop with a Cop is a program that allows local law enforcement officers and children in our community to develop a relationship that will make a difference in both of their lives and last a lifetime,” said Excelsior Springs Sgt.

Restoration progress on the Hall of Waters

PRESENT Excelsior Springs received a matching grant in 2020 for $500,000, with the city providing an additional $500,000 to repair the Hall of Waters. Originally, it was going to do things like fix the rush jacking on the two front doors, fix the tower, clean all of the rock and redo tuckpointing, said Melinda Mehaffy, economic development director for the city.

Holiday Train through Excelsior Springs

Santa Claus is known to travel by reindeer and a sleigh, for special occasions he will travel by train. The Canadian Pacific (CP) Holiday Train returned on its rails this holiday season cross-continent tour in three years and rode through Excelsior Springs on Sunday.
