Fire Chief Joe Maddick recently asked the Excelsior Springs Capital Improvements and Trans Trust Authority board for $200,000. His goal is to construct an on-site training facility for local firefighters, police officers, and other local communities so that first responders can gain real-life training.

Bond reduced for woman facing 3 felony charges

An Excelsior Springs woman who is facing three felony charges was granted a bond reduction this week in Eighth Judicial Circuit Court. Sylvia Loy, 37, is charged with first-degree assault or attempt, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.

Toys collected at annual American Legion breakfast

For decades, the American Legion has assisted the United States Marines with Toys for Tots Collection drives. This year, the Excelsior Springs Sons of the American Legion collected more than $1,000 to donate to the cause at their second annual Toys for Tots biscuits and gravy breakfast.

Senate Bill 190 approved in Clay County

Senate Bill 190 has officially passed in Clay County with a six-to-one vote as a new ordinance allowing property tax relief for senior citizens beginning in January 2025. Passed by the Missouri General Assembly and signed by Governor Mike Parson in August, SB 190 allows counties across the state to implement their own revised ordinance that enables a homestead property tax credit for eligible senior taxpayers.
