New housing presents minor setbacks

DHTC’s development of the “Flats at Coach Crossing” housing development to be constructed between US 69 Highway and Tracy Avenue, has faced setbacks due to budget constraints. Melinda Mehaffy, economic development director, explained the flats are currently $1.6 million over budget due to grading issues and the cost of retaining walls.

Clay County seeks game donations for detention center

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help collecting card games and jigsaw puzzles for the local Detention Center throughout January. “The community responded so overwhelmingly to the first-ever paperback book and puzzle drive we did for the jail in January 2022 that when new needs arose, we decided to ask them for help again,” said Clay County Sheriff Will Akin.

Council honors coach, passes STR ordinance

The Excelsior Springs City Council recognized retired high school coach John Shepherd by designating Leavenworth Street as Honorary Coach John Shepherd Way. Furthermore, the council adopted a new ordinance regarding short-term rentals previously agreed upon between city staff and the Excelsior Springs Planning and Zoning Board.
