Bown headed to Springfield to play for Evangel

Another Excelsior Springs football player is taking his game beyond high school. Senior offensive/defensive lineman Lance Bown recently signed his letter to play at Evangel University, an NAIA program, in Springfield, where he plans to major in psychology before moving on to police academy training.

Salon seeking young entrepreneurs

Uptown Roots Salon in Excelsior Springs is looking for youth in the area who have started up businesses. Owner Erica Todd-Burton says she believes that children can be entrepreneurs too, and she wants to help them pursue their business dreams by hosting pop-up markets featuring their products.

Clay County Prosecuting Attorney Thompson announces jury indictment

This past Tuesday, Excelsior Springs felon Timothy Haslett, 40, was indicted to the grand jury by Clay County Prosecuting Attorney Zachary Thompson on Haslett’s nine felony counts. The felonies include one count of rape in the first degree, four counts of sodomy in the first degree, one count of kidnapping in the first degree, two counts of assault in the second degree and one count of endangering the welfare of a child.

Resident asks for answers at council meeting

During the Wood Heights City Council meeting Monday, resident David Stephens came in before the council members, including Mayor Frank Davitt, council members Kathy Hart, Randy Jones, Bernard Allen, Ron Lambert and City Clerk Merry Marler. Stephens expressed frustrations with the members and asked about communication.

Losing skid at nine for ES girls
