Marvin Gene Rowell, 62, of Richmond passed away on Monday, April 12, 2021, at North Kansas City Hospital. He was born on Thursday, Feb.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The black and gold went 0-3 last week in varsity boys tennis matches, falling to Carrollton, Harrisonville and Warrensburg. On April 5, the team visited Carrollton, falling 7-2.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – At times, the big inning has crippled the Tigers this varsity baseball season. On April 6, however, it was a big second inning that propelled Excelsior Springs to an 18-3 victory over Oak Grove.

Kurt David Ellison, 58, of Kearney passed away peacefully on April 4, 2021, at Liberty Hospital with family at his side. His death followed a struggle with Myotonic Dystrophy.

Patricia Marie Thornton, 75, passed away after a short battle with kidney cancer on March 21, 2021, at her daughter’s house in Azle, Texas. Patricia was born March 26, 1945, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Henry Stewart and Edith Conatzer Stewart.

Nora Louise Reed, 56, passed away April 4, 2021, at Excelsior Springs Hospital. Nora was born on March 9, 1965, in Excelsior Springs to James (Jim) and Mary (Odell) Reed.

In April 2018, voters passed a 1% sales tax to be used for the funding of 911. The Board of Directors at the time pushed for a tax that would provide a secure, long-term source of income, which would be able to sustain Ray County 911 services, both now and in the future. This funding is used to meet payroll needs, maintain and update equipment, pay utilities, provide and maintain a building to house 911, and cover other expenses necessary for the operation of a 911 dispatch center. Each year, the Board of Directors is obligated by state statute to review and adjust the tax rate if income surpasses needs.

Many bills filed in the Missouri General Assembly are dead on arrival, and that is for the best. But some bills are DOA because they make lawmakers uncomfortable.
