District picks Cornerstone preview date

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Board of Education members got a sneak preview of Excelsior Springs’ new elementary school Tuesday. Scott Mead led board members through Cornerstone, slated to open in the 2021-2022 school year.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – State data shows teacher turnover is up slightly in the Excelsior Springs School District. Deputy Superintendent Jaret Tomlinson submitted turnover data to district leaders in late April.

Once, my husband pulled the truck over at a pretty spot alongside the river, at that sweet moment when the golden afternoon slides slowly into evening. He and our son got out, while I stayed in the truck, where our baby girl was sleeping, and watched as he showed our son how to cast a bait net. The net flew up and spread like magic, wide and clear, against the sky, in fading sunshine like warm honey, and I remember thinking clearly, “I never want to live anywhere else.”

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers finished their varsity baseball season on a losing note. The season ended Tuesday with a 9-2 defeat Tuesday by Oak Grove at Raytown High School in the Class 4 District 15 Tournament semifinals.

ES1 rolls to third on the road, second at home

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – A May 1 visit to Summit Lanes in Lee’s Summit ended in a third-place finish for ES1, one of Excelsior Springs Club Bowling’s two teams. ES1 opened the tournament with a 210-168 loss to Fort Osage.

Rosalee "Rosy" Korff

Rosalee Korff (Rosy Francis), 74, passed away May 11, 2021.

The daughter of John Henry and Janearl (Winfrey) Francis, she was born March 12, 1947, at Dr. Cole’s office, above Goppert Bank, in Norborne.

She attended Norborne Elementary and Norborne High School, graduating in 1965.  After graduation, she attended Central Missouri State College (now UCM) at Warrensburg for two years.  Later, she took additional adult education classes.
