Safe room rules, procedures shared

Cornerstone Elementary School recently conducted an open house to discuss safe room policies for public and school usage. Saferooms are created to save lives and provide free space for safety and saving lives for instances of minimum duration.

Board discusses improvements, recognizes students

New building improvement plans were discussed during the monthly meeting of the Excelsior Springs School Board. The group agreed to remodel the high school’s weight room, as well as purchase weights and equipment, with funds not to exceed $400,000.

Tigers fall to Northmen; triangular cut short by rain

Mason Danner “deserved a better fate” when Excelsior Springs faced Oak Park April 15 as part of a rain-shortened triangular at Tiger Stadium, according to Tigers coach Aaron Holst. Danner was the starting pitcher in Excelsior Springs’ 15-3 loss to the Northmen.

Tigers keep rolling in varsity girls soccer

Excelsior Springs has been almost unbeatable lately in varsity girls soccer. Through Monday’s home win over Savannah, the Tigers had won five of their last six and were 6-5 overall entering Wednesday’s road meeting with Raytown South in Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division action.

Netters split two duals, claim three tourney medals

Excelsior Springs had little time to relax between competitions last week in varsity boys tennis. The Tigers crammed two duals and their own tournament into three days, splitting the duals, and claiming a firstplace medal and two third-place medals at the tournament.

Life is always throwing things at us from work emergencies to home life chaos. Some can handle the pressure easier than others. But I can’t sleep until everything that needs tending has been sorted out. Otherwise, it’s tossing and turning until my next move is determined. Is it because I lack self-control?

Fornelli, Banks plan June wedding

Spohn elected mayor

In a 4-1 vote, the Excelsior Springs City Council recently elected Mark Spohn as mayor of the town, while Stephen Spear was re-elected as mayor pro tem. Spohn takes the gavel from Sharon Powell, who served in that position since 2020.
