Be positive when cheering athletes

As another year of interscholastic athletics gets underway in the Excelsior Springs School District, it’s important to remind fans that student athletes need support from their homes and the stands.
I’m not the only one who feels this way. Eric Marshall, the district’s new activities director, thinks so, too.
“I think it is vital for our kids to have as many supporters at our games as possible and it is just (as) important to have positive cheering for them to be successful,” Marshall said.
One way to provide support is to let the coaches coach. The coaches on the sidelines are instructing their athletes on ways to do what is best for the team. Alas, many fans have played the same sport they’re watching and had success playing the game a specific way, so they think it should still be played that way.
