Excelsior Springs claims MRVC West boys soccer title
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – For the first time since 2004, the Tigers can claim a league title in varsity boys soccer.
With 47 seconds left in Excelsior Springs’ Oct. 28 meeting with visiting Harrisonville, senior Ethan Edwards bent in a free kick to give the Tigers a 1-0 victory. By winning the regularseason finale, the Tigers claimed their first Missouri River Valley Conference West Division title.
“I really wanted to score with it being Senior Night and having a chance at the conference championship,” Edwards said. “I couldn’t be more proud of our guys with the hard work and the brotherhood we have created within the team.”
The last time Excelsior Springs captured a conference or divisional title was 2004, when the Tigers won the Suburban Blue Conference championship and went on to place second in the Class 2 state tournament. Members of that team included Excelsior Springs’ current varsity coach, Zac Ganzer, who was a senior.
