Shooting goes cold for ES girls in back-to-back basketball defeats
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Excelsior Springs varsity girls basketball team has fallen victim to cold shooting.
That cold shooting has resulted in back-to-back losses, a 47-18 Jan. 14 home rout by Bishop LeBlond of St. Joseph and a 53-10 defeat Monday at Liberty.
The Tigers have shot 15% from the field over the two games, going 9-for-52.
Against LeBlond, the Tigers jumped out to an early lead, but the Golden Eagles went on to outscore them 23-5 the first quarter. The Tigers continued to struggle offensively the second quarter, getting outscored 11-4.
It was evenly matched for much of the third quarter before LeBlond went on a 5-0 run to end the quarter leading 43-13. Excelsior Springs edged LeBlond 5-4 the final quarter.
Junior Mallory Millsap and freshman Alani Price led the Tigers in scoring with four points each. Junior Rylie Stottlemyre added three points.
