Three Tigers qualify for state track/field meet
WARRENSBURG – Junior Braxton Moffett and sophomores Mason Wartner and Kolt Willis will represent Excelsior Springs this weekend at Jefferson City High School in Class 4 state track and field competition.
Willis, Moffett and Wartner each qualified for state by posting top-four finishes May 21 at Class 4 Sectional 4 competition in Warrensburg. Willis placed third in the discus, throwing 47.47 meters to secure his first appearance at state.
Moffett placed fourth in the pole vault clearing 3.5. Like Willis, Moffett is making his first appearance at state.
“It was such a relieving feeling when I crossed the bar and knew I (had) made the state meet,” he said.
Wartner qualified in the 3,200-meter run, placing fourth in 10 minutes, 23.34 seconds. He was nearly 24 seconds off the winning pace of Lincoln College Preparatory Academy’s Isaac Rivera.
