Excelsior Springs varsity football coach Jake Danneman and his Tigers were looking to test themselves against some larger schools this week.

The Tigers had limited-contact offseason scrimmages slated for Wedensday with Oak Park, Marshall and Raytown at Excelsior Springs. Oak Park, a Kansas Citybased school, became a Class 6 football program after many years in Class 5. Raytown has historically been a Class 5 program. Excelsior Springs has traditionally been a Class 4 program.

Danneman, who’s entering his third year at Excelsior Springs, had one primary expectation for his players Wednesday.

“I’m hoping to see that they can make adjustments on the fly, and use what they’ve been taught and their rules and go,” he said after a team camp session Monday morning at Tiger Stadium. “And that’s all we’re asking these kids to do.”
