Kolt Willis brought home the silver for his final high school track and field meet. Willis, who graduated May 10 from Excelsior Springs, placed second in the boys discus at Class 4 state competition, held May 23-24 at Jefferson City High School. His best throw, 52.77 meters, was 1.04 meters behind that of the state champion – Kearney’s Tyrus Smith. Willis was among five athletes who competed for Excelsior Springs at state. Kinley Rogers, Katie Houck, Kolin Kincaid and Joseph James completed the group. Rogers, who recently finished her sophomore year, competed in two girls events – the javelin and the shot put. She placed ninth in the javelin by throwing 37.14 and 12th in the shot put by throwing 10.96. It was Rogers’ second trip to state.
