Tigers take third at ’Tonka

KANSAS CITY – The Excelsior Springs varsity boys soccer team got its first road trip out of the way last week. Playing in the Winnetonka Tournament, the Tigers visited the Staley High School and District Athletic Complex, where they placed third.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers got off to an 0-2 start in varsity softball. The season opened Monday with a 4-3 road loss to Cameron.

RICHMOND – Excelsior Springs girls golf coach David Stalder liked the way his Tigers competed last weeked in the Odessa Par 3 Shootout at Shirkey Golf Course in Richmond to open the season. The Tigers shot a 324 as a team, 15 strokes behind the winner, Boonville.

Netters tumble to Wildcats in opener

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers had what girls tennis coach Richie Marsh called “a tough start to the season” Tuesday against visiting Harrisonville. “Harrisonville returned four of their six top players from last season and we looked like we were timid in our first match of the year,” Marsh said.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers defeated the Savages, 33-21, last week, but Excelsior Springs could not beat the Savannah team’s brush with COVID-19.

“We are not playing this Friday at Warrensburg for sure,” Excelsior Springs Superintendent Dan Hoehn said Wednesday.

Acting in coordination with the Clay County Health Department, the Excelsior Springs varsity players are quarantined until further notice.

All Tiger coaches had been released from quartantine Wednesday.

The first day of the new school year is Sept. 8.

Faubion looks to fill void left by graduation

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Varsity football coach Mark Faubion has what might seem like a daunting task to some fans: replacing 22 seniors. Making that task even harder was that Faubion could not get a full spring and summer to work with his players as he usually does.

Ganzer leads mix of maturity, youth onto soccer pitch

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers possess a mix of maturity and inexperience as they prepare to take the field this varsity boys soccer season. Senior defender Matthew Smith is part of the experienced group, as he returns from a first-team all-district, second-team all-conference season in 2019.

Rawie’s expectations ‘pretty high’ for softballers

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Coach Megan Rawie can enjoy a few luxuries as she begins her second season as Excelsior Springs varsity softball coach. One luxury is six returning starters from a team that went 15-7 overall and 6-4 in the Missouri River Valley Conference West Division – good enough for second place.
