The Excelsior Springs varsity boys hoopsters ran into teams with high-octane offenses last week, just as their varsity girls basketball counterparts did (see related story). Like the girls, the boys faced – and fell to – Kearney and then Raytown South in Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division play.

LATHROP – On Feb. 3, eight Excelsior Springs boys wrestlers who had battled injuries or illness this season opted to get in some mat time by competing at the Lathrop Invitational.

Once again, Excelsior Springs played three varsity boys basketball games in one week. Once again, the Tigers dropped three varsity boys basketball games in one week.

The Excelsior Springs girls wrestling program has turned its focus to the postseason. The girls finished their regular-season schedule last week, defeating Raytown South 54-22 Jan.

Excelsior Springs got back in the win column last week in varsity girls basketball. After dropping their last two games of the Richmond Winter Classic and falling 48-35 Jan.

To borrow from an old hip hop song, all Justin Wright did was win at last week’s Odessa Bulldog Invitational. The Excelsior Springs junior won his three matches at the Jan.

Excelsior Springs has played its last tournament in varsity girls basketball – for the 2023-24 regular season, that is. The girls finished the tournament portion of their regular-season schedule last week with three games at the Richmond Winter Classic, going 1-2.

Excelsior Springs is looking to start another winning streak in varsity boys basketball. After posting a two-game winning streak, the Tigers had lost five straight entering Wednesday’s road meeting with North Platte.

Excelsior Springs refused to be swept in varsity girls wrestling last week. Competing at a Jan.

On Jan. 19, a trio of Tigers returned to Excelsior Springs from Brookfield as champions.
