Lilly Goetz nearly brought home a championship medal from the Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference Tournament. The Excelsior Springs first-year high schooler took second in the 120-pound division at the Jan.
With a 49-37 victory over Richmond Jan. 17, Excelsior Springs varsity girls basketball coach JD Biermann and his Tigers accomplished two feats: They took fifth place at the Lawson Invitational and they avenged an earlier loss to the Spartans.

The Excelsior Springs Youth Wrestling Club racked up the medals at its own annual tournament. The local club produced 13 champions and 16 second-place finishers at the competition, held Sunday at Excelsior Springs High School.
Cooper Collins, Owen Andreasen and Justin Wright each bested all challengers at the Excelsior Springs Tiger Classic. Collins, a junior, went 5-0 to win the 138-pound division at the Jan.
Winnetonka’s pressure defense proved too much for Excelsior Springs when the schools met recently in varsity boys basketball. Excelsior Springs committed 29 turnovers in its 74-21 Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division defeat, with Winnetonka scoring 31 points off those turnovers.
