Brenda Reed named Classified Employee of the Month

Due to her kind heart and love for kids, Cornerstone Elementary Lunch Assistant Brenda Reed has been named Classified Employee of the Month by the Excelsior Springs School District (ESSD). While Reed has been at Cornerstone Elementary for four years, she was previously a paraprofessional at ESSD for around seven years.

For younger students, there are quite a few nursery rhymes that mention the Sun or Moon, like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Hey Diddle Diddle.

ES community discusses Wyman School’s future

Excelsior Springs community members recently gathered at the Hall of Waters to discuss the future of Wyman School. Economic Development Director Melinda Mehaffy led the meeting attended by many locals and city council members, with the purpose of hearing citizens’ thoughts on what should be done with the former school.

Birdsong working to improve the city for 30 years

After conquering multiple positions and working his way up the ladder with the City of Excelsior Springs, the Public Works Director is celebrating his 30-year work anniversary. Chad Birdsong began his career with the city in 1990, working part time in the Parks and Recreation Department.

Former Fire Chief Honored

IN HONOR OF recently deceased former Excelsior Springs fire chief William “Bill” T. Stewert, the fire department and Excelsior Springs Police Department provided escort for the procession. The departments paid tribute to Stewart at graveside services at Masonic Cemetery. Stewert, who passed away March 11 at 84 years of age, served the community at the city fire department for nearly 47 years.
