City seeks funds to renovate ‘Henrie Hill’ bridge
Excelsior Springs must move forward with renovating the bridge on Dunbar Avenue that overpasses Henrie Avenue, Chad Birdsong told city leaders during a Sept. 2 work session at the Hall of Waters.
According to a report on Bridgehunter. com (bridgehunter.com/mo/clay/16952/), the overpass is 115 years old and was last renovated 42 years ago. The report also states that a December 2017 inspection gave the overpass a “fair” rating for condition in four categories: overall, superstructure, substructure and the deck. In addition, the report states the overpass received a 24.5 sufficiency rating out of a possible 100.
Renovating the bridge has “been in the works for three, four years now,” estimated Birdsong, the city public works director.
“We need to get moving on it and try to make it fit in somewhere (in terms of funding), so we can close it out,” he said.
