City seeks more road maintenance money

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The city could receive up to $57,878 more to help with road projects, thanks to an agreement between Excelsior Springs and the Mid-America Regional Council. Approved April 18 by the City Council at the Hall of Waters, the agreement makes the city a participant in the Missouri Preventive Maintenance Program, overseen by MARC. As Public Works Director Chad Birdsong stated in an April 15 memo to city leaders and reiterated before the vote, the program is distributing money provided through the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021. The money “is specifically for cities and counties to conduct preventative maintenance activities and to address needs such as mill and overlay or micro surfacing projects of roadways in their communities,” Birdsong stated.
