Judge recogs suspect in ‘largest’ drug seizure in ESPD history

A Kansas man arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled dangerous substance – in what police officers have determined to be one of the largest drug seizures in Excelsior Springs Police Department history – has been released on his own recognizance.Laughton R. Viney, 34, of Kansas City, who was arrested in Excelsior Springs after a warrant was issued, recently appeared before Seventh Judicial Circuit Court Judge Karen L. Krause for an initial appearance. During the hearing, Viney entered a plea of not guilty.The following day, Viney attended a bond reduction hearing, during which Krauser consented to lower the bond from $5,000 to releasing him on his own recognizance.Viney will appear next at 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 19.The probable cause statement redacts the names of all officers, victims and witnesses, who will be referred to by number.On Nov. 3, an Excelsior Springs Police Department (ESPD) officer...
