Thomas Edward Hutson, 65, of Granbury, Texas, died on July 21, 2023, at home from pancreatic cancer, surrounded by his wife and daughters. Tom was born on Dec. 16, 1957, in Chicago to Mary Frances Hutson (Ward) and Johnie Joe Hutson. They later moved to Excelsior Springs, where Tom grew up and graduated from Excelsior Springs High School.

Safety and compliance in all construction and building-related activities is held to high standards in Excelsior Springs, including mold prevention and control. The city recently adopted the International Code Council’s (ICC) building codes, and to keep its residents informed, has made educational material available.

Like many girls in the Excelsior Springs High School volleyball program, Carly Dolt thinks of the program as a family. That family atmosphere is something the senior will miss about the program when this season ends.

James Thomas Stockwell, 92, of Excelsior Springs peacefully passed away on Aug. 22, 2023, at home while surrounded by his family.

A new bill passed earlier this month forbids Missouri drivers of any age from holding or using any “electronic communication devices.” Called “Siddens Bening Hands Free Law” Missouri Revised Statute 304.820 described devices as anything from a phone to laptops. Drivers may not take videos or scroll while driving – this includes talking on the phone, manually texting or typing into a search engine.

Another youth football season is underway in Excelsior Springs. This past weekend, two Excelsior Springs Football Association (ESFA) teams opened their respective campaigns.
