SAFE meeting warns of legal gas station drugs, lethal risks
A colorful display of pills near the cash register might seem harmless to most customers filling their tanks or grabbing snacks. However. a growing number of these gas station products are landing Missouri residents in the emergency room and in some cases, putting them at risk of overdose or addiction.“These products are often brightly packaged, right next to the counter, and they’re completely unregulated,” said Missouri Poison Center Community Outreach Coordinator Amanda Ruback,MSN, RN, CSPI. “People don’t realize they can be addictive, dangerous and even deadly.”Ruback presented her annual update on regional poisoning trends at the recent Substance Abuse Free Environments (SAFE) coalition meeting in Excelsior Springs.
