Chappel makes return trip to state competition
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – When it comes to district golf, the key is to play one round that is good enough to make the state tournament.
On Monday, Hope Chappel played a round that was good enough.
The Excelsior Springs senior shot a 102 (+30) for her 18-hole, par-72 round at Excelsior Springs Golf Course to finish in three-way for eighth with Odessa’s Makenzie Harget and Warrensburg’s Hannah Taylor at the Class 2 District 4 Tournament. The top 18 finishers advanced to the Class 2 state girls tournament, scheduled for Oct. 19-20 at Meadow Lake Acres Country Club in New Bloomfield.
Chappel, who received all-district honors, will appear at state for the second consecutive year. In 2019, she shot a twoday total of 214 and finished in a five-way tie for 43rd at the Class 1 tournament.
In other District 4 news, the top individual honor went to Hallie Jones of Chillicothe, who shot an 87 (+15). Cameron took the team championship by shooting a 424 overall – three strokes ahead of second-place…
