SHUTOUTS
More often than not, opponents aren’t scoring against Excelsior Springs in varsity baseball.
The Tigers had won three of five entering Wednesday’s regular-season finale at Belton, with every victory being by a shutout. They started May 2 with a 10-0 home thumping of Grandview.
Excelsior Springs fell 4-0 to St. Joseph Central May 5 and 9-1 to Willard May 6. On May 6, the Tigers also pummeled Pembroke Hill, a Kansas City-based private school, 13-0. On Tuesday, Excelsior Springs blanked Raytown South 4-0 on the road.
After facing Belton, the Tigers will focus on the Class 4 District 15 Tournament, which they’ll also host. Seeded first, they’ll face the Northeast of Kansas City-Guadalupe Centers Charter winner at 4:30 p.m. May 15. A win will put them in the district title game, slated for 5 p.m. May 17.
