Cool weather caps latest youth football camp
When Excelsior Springs varsity football coach Jake Danneman, his assistant coaches and players guided 100plus kiddos on the last day of a four-day youth camp, they had good weather on their side.“It’s been a rough one all week – been hot, and then last night, we got cut short because of a little bit of lightning in the area,” Danneman said on a cool July 17 evening under mostly cloudy skies at Tiger Stadium. “And then tonight, it’s just perfect.”The weather on the other three days notwithstanding, the camp went well, according to Danneman. For one, about 110 youngsters in grades preK-6 attended – up from 2024 by between 25 and 30, he estimated.“Good improvement,” he said. Danneman attributed the increase in part to spreading the word through the football grapevine.
