Tigers clip Owls’ wings with shutout to claim title
ODESSA – The Tigers proved the Excelsior Springs varsity boys soccer coaching staff correct when they faced Marshall Nov. 4 at Odessa for the Class 2 District 6 championship.
Neither state-ranked team scored during the action-packed first half. Excelsior Springs, however, controlled the ball for much of the half, prompting the staff to give the Tigers some encouragement at halftime.
“We told the boys to keep doing what we were doing and the goals would come,” coach Zac Ganzer said.
And they did. Four of them, to be exact, for a 4-0 win and a trip to the Class 2 state quarterfinals.
Senior Ethan Edwards started the scoring by heading in a corner kick in the 55th minute. Freshman Kollin Kincaid provided the assist.
Junior Carter Pitts made it 2-0 in the 58th minute with an assist from junior Brendan Blackburn. Blackburn then found the net in the 69th minute, as Jacob Zapata fed him an assist pas...
